Well folks, Artprize is over for our heroes, who didn't quite make it to the top ten. But they still had a grand time at Grand Rapids! Thanks to the thousands of people who stopped by!
Yesterday (October 5), Leslie and Jason gave a Lunchbox Series talk; a free lecture series that they were invited to participate in to talk about Artprize, art, etc. Their lecture was one of three "Competing Couples"-themed lectures. See the video:
ArtPrize is happening!
ArtPrize, the world's biggest art competition, opens this Wednesday 9/23 for the public's critical perusal!
Everyone in or near Grand Rapids should go see how upwards of 1,200 artists have turned the entire city into a gallery. And if you're around there looking at the art, you should also register to vote, then vote!

Nature of Place Symposium
Leslie is giving a presentation at the first Land Heritage Instute Art-Sci Symposium, “The Nature of Place: Land Art/Land Use.” Their schedule boasts an exciting collection of speakers and presentations about Land Art and public art vs. private art, among other related subjects.
This free and open event will be held October 24-25 at the San Antonio Toyota Manufacturing Plant Visitors Center, located directly across the Medina River from the 1200 acre Land Heritage Institute site in the southern-most sector of San Antonio.
Double Thunder showing at Antimatter Film Festival!
Prestigious yearly Canadian film festival "Antimatter", which is taking place on October 9-17 this year, will have Potter-Belmar Labs' short "Double Thunder" in its roster of prodigious screenings. While the program guide is not to be up at their website until mid-September, I happen to know that they will be playing Double Thunder on October 14.
Some history: dedicated readers may recall that PBL participated in the festival last year with their Fortune performance.
Art Prize at Grand Rapids, MI
Both Leslie and Jason are participating in the competition for world's largest art prize, aptly named ArtPrize. It's taking place in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from September 23 to October 10, and the winners will be chosen democratically by the public without the involvement of electoral colleges.
Both entries have proven success in San Antonio already:
Leslie will be showing her Icarus Overland piece, previously seen in the Multiples Show at David Shelton Gallery. Her venue is Lightbox.
Jason's entry is his Eleven Strata and the Planetary Boundary installation, as seen before at Joan Grona, to be shown at The Old Federal Building.
Please send your sincerest, most effective good luck wishes, and if they work, you might get a cut of the winnings! Or not! Who knows!
Potter-Belmar + W ((aa)) ou w) at Squeaky Wheel

On Saturday, August 1, Potter-Belmar Labs and Buffalo-based band W ((aa))ou w) (pronounced 'wow') regaled the audience at Squeaky Wheel Media Arts Center with two surreal sets of live music and video mixing like ne'er a buffalo has seen. W ((aa))ou w) is Jim Abramson, Tristan Trump, and Jax DeLuca, who is also Programming Director at Squeaky Wheel.

Death of CAM parade!
CAM is dead! Long live CAM!
In commemoration of this final July CAM, and in celebration of the DIY spirit of these 23 years of hot sweaty CAMs, everyone's invited to the Death of Contemporary Art Month Parade. Wear a costume, bring an instrument, and march for the Death of CAM.
The parade gathers at 7:45pm next Sunday at Tacoland Park (aka the San Antonio River tunnel inlet at Josephine Street) as dusk approaches. From there, we head south along the banks of the river in full regalia. We swarm the SAMA grounds, as they'll be leaving the gate open and some refreshments out for us! Then on to El Tropicano to partake in the remains of a fundraiser feast.
Mimi Kato will be there incognito as a horse, and Jason is going to wear gold spandex!
Captain Hills Snyder will lead the drum corps (corpse?). Bring something to bang along on - a drum, a bucket, a small child, anything percussive. And the Prime Eights will be documenting the parade, so be sure to wear your best and/or most creative funerary apparel!
